Monster Energyhas increased their support of racers at the HDRA, Eldorado
Fireworks 500 by awarding an additional $10,000 in prize money to bring
the total cash bonuses to $35,500. Special Fueled by Monster Energy cup
trophies will be awarded to fastest qualifier, fastest lap, winner of largest
class and most dominating! Each of these trophies will be accompanied with
a check for $2,000. Big O Tires is getting involved by sponsoring the live
Internet show on HDRArace.com and will be offering a $500 bonus to the
first overall, air-cooled car to finish. According to Jim Anderson of Big
O Tires, who will be racing with Chad Hall in Chad’s Trophy Truck, “Big
O has five retail locations in the Reno market. The Fireworks 500 is set
to be the biggest off-road race in America. We are excited to partner with
HDRA and look forward to the future growth of off-road racing in Reno.
I will be racing a truck but my roots are in air-cooled cars so we are
offering the $500 bonus. Big O Tires is working on additional support for
racers at the 500, so stay tuned.”
Truck racing, in particular off-road, is a very popular spectator sport
in the south-west USA mainly. Again, spectator friendly is the short-course
offroad - not the "classic" off-road truck racing. Monster Trucks (almost
everybody knows "Grave Digger") as well have a elevated spectator count
across the United States. Now add that up in the marketing oriented thinking
process of Robby Gordon and what you get?? A new racing series for 2013
named "Stadium SUPER Trucks" Race Series.
There has also been reports of a different kind of race taking place this
year, the Beach Race 200 possibly planned in California for 2016. This
would be a collaboration between a couple well-known
cyclistscompanies that will be providing adults only all inclusive resorts for the
race. Stay tuned on that.
Now with his involvement you can bet it will be, when finalized,
something like "Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks USAC Racing" combined
with the "BIGFOOT® – The Original Monster Trucks Action" or such... just
contemplating here. Could be also a little longer after all there is Toyo
Tires, his long-years sponsor as well 4wheel parts and some more. But the
announcement of the series is real. The whole story about that SST is that
SST Racing’s field consists of 30 custom-made trucks, specifically made
for stadiums and built by the off-road legend, Robby Gordon. Gordon, a
one time champion of the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Series is revitalizing
Thompson’s series and making it BIGGER, BETTER and BADDER.
The difference between other series and desert off-road racing is the
concept of no teams. This means each truck is built and maintained by SST
Racing. All trucks are built exactly the same and is dyno-ed before
each event to keep an even playing field for each driver. Before each SST
event, a driver will draw for his chassis number and will be dyno-ed on
the spot, inspected by a SST official and ready for the provided driver’s
sponsored body panels.
